Effective: July 2026
Yokoso is a Japanese-learning app built to collect as close to nothing as possible.
Your learning progress (which items you've studied, your answers, and review schedules), your settings, and optional memory hooks you write. All of it lives on your device.
If you enable cross-device sync — with a sync code or by signing in with Google or Apple — that same learning data is stored in a sync backend so your devices stay in agreement. Sign-in shares only your account identifier and email address with us; we use them solely to key your progress data.
If you paste a WaniKani API token, the app talks directly from your device to WaniKani's API to read your progress there. The token is never sent anywhere except api.wanikani.com.
No analytics SDKs, no advertising identifiers, no tracking pixels, no third-party data sharing, no sale of data. The app works fully offline.
Optional support payments are processed by Stripe (web) or Apple (iOS). We never see or store card details.
Settings → "Reset all progress" erases local data. To delete synced data, contact us with your sync code or account email.
